Living in Hong Kong for as long as I have has made me acquainted with a lot of "mainstream" people, doctors, lawyers, bankers, accountants, people whose life long goal is to get out of their mortgage and race to retirement. I never felt suffocated by this until the breath of fresh air I have currently had the privilege to encounter.
As of recently, I have opened my eyes to artists, designers, writers and athletes, people from different walks of life. I enjoyed being indulged in the conversations about art or sports as opposed to "what time did you get off last night?" and attending and supporting these non-mainstream events. These people that don't care how much they make, they believe in pursuing their lifelong dreams against all odds and obstacles. They can be a curator by day but artist by night, teacher by day designer by night. Whatever the scenario, the moral of the story to me at least is: stop focusing on landing that ESF job that may pay me more money, instead start focusing on finishing that debut novel that I started with all the dedication and belief that it will somehow turn into something good, or at least die trying.
And the moral of the story to my dear readers (if there are any that is) is to stop doing what you hate just because life has caught up on you. It's never too late to pick up that guitar and write the next big jam. Don't worry about the dollar sign or be trapped by dogma. Be daring and live life to the fullest. You only got one shot at life, don't waste it!
