Tuesday Ten: Ten things the current me would tell myself ten years ago

  1. Master plans for your life don't always follow through and you're gonna have to deal with it. Ten years ago, I thought I would graduate from HKU, become a writer, get married and be pregnant by now but none of that happened, and not because I didn't work hard towards it but because life just happens, there will always be unpredictable incidents that eff you up, and you're just gonna have to suck it up, and deal with it, accept it and embrace it, it's part of growing up.
  2. Guys can disappoint you but family and friends will always be there for you. Because after every breakup and heartbreak, they will be there for you no matter what, people to confide to, your support system, people you can count on.
  3. Health is important. Some things like your career can be important but as cliche as it sounds, without health, you have nothing, it's something money can't buy and something too late to fix when you reach old age, so don't strain yourself out too much, and be healthy. Work out, eat right.
  4. Enjoy every moment of being young because life is gonna pass by so quickly. Hang out with your friends as much as you can, dance more, laugh more, live more. Cherish every trivial moment and the emotions that come with it. Embody youth!
  5. Listen to your parents. They might not know it all, but they would know more than you, because they've been through your age and they know all the ramifications of your decisions, you might not wanna hear it but most of the times, your parents are right.
  6. Know that you'll make mistakes and learn to take constructive criticism. Making mistakes is a part of growing up and normal, you're not a failure when you make mistakes, what is important is that you can take constructive criticism and get up from where you are.
  7. Fool you once, shame on them; fool you twice, shame on you. Learn your lessons the first time, if he cheats, he will cheat again. Move on, the first time.
  8. People will come in and out of your life. Although the ones you want to stay don't always stay, try not to resent them, because for the fraction of second that they were in your life, they will still teach you something, inspire you and make you a better you, so I just thank them and wish them best of luck. Don't resent.
  9. Never settle for less. Whether it's your job or your boyfriend, never settle and follow your heart.
  10. It's never too late to pursue your dreams or pick up from where you fell. You're still living so cherish that opportunity to start over and pursue what you want.
"Never lie, steal, cheat, or drink. But if you must lie, lie in the arms of the one you love. If you must steal, steal away from bad company. If you must cheat, cheat death. And if you must drink, drink in the moments that take your breath away."
