Ruby Sparks is an indie movie surprisingly written by Zoe
Karazan herself about a novelist with a writer’s block and relationship rut. Said protagonist
then started to dream of a girl and out his therapist’s suggestion started
writing about her. He started to add details to her and mold her into the type
of girl he likes. And one day, this girl just appeared out of thin air.
The movie progresses as problems arise with this unreal yet
real girlfriend of his. How when she deviated from what he wanted, he would
correct her, making it an impossible and relationship. I will not spoil the
ending for you, but what I can say is, the ending is a nice twist and close to
the whole story. It’s a movie that allows us to reflect on how we try to change
our significant others and push them away. A movie I do highly recommend.
All About Eve is a 50’s movie starring Betty Davis. The plot
simple yet superbly written with all the wit ever is about how a small town
minion connivingly took away the fame of a well known actress as she started
off acting all innocent and loyal. It ironically still speaks of the issues
women of our day still face such as aging, being paranoid and insecure about
it, not just career wise but relationship wise well and how one should rise
from these problems with grace and cherish the people who genuinely care about
us.
There’s a Marilyn Monroe cameo in it too if you like her. I
haven’t seen a 50’s movie in ages but I am really glad I watched this one.
