So my Prof from my Rhetoric of Digital Design course said The Lego movie is an interesting metaphor of the Maker Culture that we have been investigating for the past few weeks, that the definition of "maker", "instructables" was depicted within the movie but intriguingly he thought of how The Lego company turned the lost trend of Lego building back into a fad with the movie thus perpetuating the monopolization of the building blocks and toys industry and the hegemony thus created within our real world of consumerism.
I however feel that the movie's storyboard itself was highly creative despite already getting a teaser from my prof. The way it began as a cosmic religious prophecy put upon an ordinary man already was something I did not anticipate, much less how the story progressed and ended. I think the essence of not being homogenized beings that flow through life without censoring what's happening to us was clearly highlighted and I thought a nice satire to how we live. The age old message of believing yourself to be special and unique was something again I did not anticipate yet was I believe the climax of the movie: Everyone is special as long as you believe you are.
Looking more deeply into the metaphor of "instructables"/"instructions" is I believe a great satire of the Ideological State Apparatus and Interpellation that Marx raised and Althusser later on expanded on.
And to just manifest the idea of being "creative" I would like to try and guess what the possible sequel would look like: The sister who comes down "to destruct" the Lego city will be harmonized into his brothers creative world...but through yet another battle, this time, they have to deal with young minds...minds that we educators might call...Tabula rasa, a blank slate, which has the infinite potential of creating ingenius things. Wana bet? *smirk*
